It's been a funny old start to the new year. After a lovely "twix-mas" with some time in London with the family, we were all ready to start back into the new year, when my Father-in-law fell ill and ended up in hospital after a heart attack. I'm sure many of you with older parents know the worry, suffice it to say Dad is currently staying with us, getting lots of cups of tea and being kept a firm eye on. Hopefully, a hospital appointment on Monday will give him the all-clear to drive and stay on his own. I have to say he has been much perkier the last couple of days.
While all this has been going on, we've taken the Wolfling back to University, the Cub has started back at School and Mr Wolf and I are back at our jobs. Also, I've started teaching a one-off online knitting course with Adult Learning. Pic shown is Lady M helping me knit a sample square (showing slip stitch edging, to stop that sloppy first stitch)
I have found a few moments in the chaos to take time for myself and think about what I want to achieve this year. I'm not one for Resolutions, especially those that start with Don't or Stop, so I have chosen a word to focus on this year. That work is SUSTAIN.
For me this means carrying on with the work that started last year, building a great suite of beginner courses to teach knitting and crochet as a way to support mental health and wellbeing, and to promote slow fashion. I am going to be working on bringing these in-person courses into an on-demand online platform this year, to reach as many more people and spread the love as far as I can.
In my personal life, I am looking to sustain the relationships I have, nurture and grow with the people closest to me in my life. Also to support sustaining the planet by using my money consciously, buying 2nd hand and thrifting where I can, and supporting local businesses where I can. Finally, I want to sustain and support my own personal and mental health. Giving myself time to rest and think about my routines and habits to make sure I am being kind to myself and making sensible decisions.
I'll be sharing some ideas I have for a big project for 2024 very soon, so give me a follow here to get updates to your inbox.
