As Autumn rolls in, knitwear evolves into the star of the season - comfort wrapped in style. Here's what's hot this year, plus how to wear it with flair. We'll also explore where to get the patterns to make your own, where to buy examples on the high street and what skills you'll need to be comfy, cozy and on trend as the weather cools.
Knitwear (and crochet pieces) are so varied and versatile you probably have something in your wardrobe already. As we look into the current trends, have a think about what you already have (the most sustainable clothes are the ones you already have!). If not, I'll be sharing high street examples and a pick of patterns for you to make your own.
While we are here, I just wanted to mention 2 points around Crochet and the High Street. Firstly, true crochet can't be machine made, if you see a crochet garment on the high street for a low price, someone was paid nearly nothing for their hours and hours of skilled work. Secondly, a lot of "crochet" in the high street is a form of machine embroidery which is vastly inferior to the handmade loveliness you can produce yourself. Caveat Emptor!!!
OK lets dive into the trends that are coming out of design houses and high street collections
Classic Grey, Reimagined
Grey knitwear has taken over from black as the ultimate go-to, with a sigh of relief for every maker who has struggled with black yarn! Seen across collections from Stella McCartney to Victoria Beckham, this versatile tone offers sophistication and ease. Try pairing a chunky grey sweater dress with vinyl trousers or layer up beneath a blouse for a polished, modern look.

Chunky Cardigans & Cardigan sets
Oversized and slouchy, chunky cardigans are back with a vintage twist. Wear them with knee-high socks and glossy flats for a nostalgic look, or slip one off the shoulder for an artful undone vibe. Sets—matching cardigan and bottoms—add effortless polish; think of the sleek sweater bralette and cardigan combos seen on the street. The best thing about chunky makes, is how fast they grow. You can make one of these gorgeous cardigans in no time!
Sweater Vests
Layer up with stylish sweater vests—a practical nod to layering that also works well under coats. The bonus is, NO SLEEVES, making this another quicker make trend.

Graphic, Bright & Striped Knits
Add personality with graphic motifs or bold colours. Bright yellows, pinks, and cobalt blue sweaters brighten grey days, while striped and Breton knits—from traditional to prep-school styles—bring timeless charm. Winter doesn't mean we have to be wearing dark, dull colours.
Scottish-Inspired & Textural Layers
Heritage inspired textures and Fair Isle patterns bring a Scottish charm to knitwear. Pair a printed vest or cardigan with a low-key outfit to add cultural flair and warmth. Time to bring out that treasured piece, these take SOOOOOOO much time to knit, wear it with pride and wait for all the compliments (and requests for you to make one for them!!!!)
