Netflix’s new show Wednesday has been a hit with viewers, and it’s no surprise considering the combination of gothic style, horror elements, and the beloved characters of The Addams Family. But one thing that really stands out in Wednesday is the knitwear featured throughout the show. Jenna Ortega gets to wear some amazing knitwear in her signature monochrome style.
Unsurprisingly, there has been a quick move to replicate some of her jumpers, both as patterns you can knit yourself and as fully finished garments. But where would we be if we didn't knit it ourselves!!!
Knitting has been a popular pastime for centuries, but its popularity has grown even more in recent years. This is no different for Wednesday, as the knitwear featured on the show is inspiring viewers to take up their needles and create their own unique pieces. The large squared sweater vest above is pretty beginner friendly, using the Intarsia method. You can buy the pattern here: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/chaleco-merlina-wednesday and there are lots of Etsy sellers who will knit one for you.
The knitwear featured on Wednesday also adds to the show’s gothic style. The monochrome colours contrast so well with Enid's more colourful style, especially with their dorm room window.
Don't you just love those kooky knits. Best friends don't have to be identical and it the differences that complement each other that make Enid & Wednesday a true power partnership.
If this has left you with a burning desire to knit your own Wednesday Addams jumper, then head over to Ravely, grab your pattern and get knitting.
Intarsia is a style of knitting where you work in colour blocks. You only knit with one colour at a time, but you will have more than one ball or bobbin of yarn on your needles at a time. In order to make sure your colours mesh together and you don't get unsightly holes, you will need to "wrap" your two colours together whenever you change colour. You will also have to manage all those yarns hanging off your needles
